Animal products and the truth behind them

I realized the importance of this post when I came across a news article today stating the spread of yet another disease - the Bubonic Plague.

In the far land of Mongolia, Chinese authorities had confirmed a case of Bubonic plague in the herdsman after consuming a marmot ( like a large squirrel). This has led to a citywide Level 3 warning for plague prevention. Just a recap, this is exactly the same plague that was responsible for the Black Death - death of 50 million people in Europe in the middle ages.

The spread of this disease can be attributed to eating the raw meat of a marmot( a large quirrel like mammal) . And so can be the spread of Corona virus - which is 96% identical to a corona virus in horseshoe bats. The consumption of which is the reason for you being stuck inside your home for the past 4 months, the cause of rapid unemployment and the cause of death of near and dear.

Isn't the cost of consuming something only to provide you momentary satisfaction too high?

It could be harming you more than you know, here is how:

1. Dairy is loaded with hormones: The commercialization of eggs, meat and milk, along with the need to provide for the growing population has led to feeding of growth hormones to cows and chickens to produce more. Cattle is known to be artificially injected with hormones like oxytocin which is very harmful for our body - it increases risk of hemorrhage in mothers after giving birth, leads to hormonal imbalances, and increased risk of abortion and breast cancer. Additionally, they are harmful to cows who tend to die sooner and have issues during delivery of calves.

2. It increases your risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes: Dairy products and meat are very high in cholestrol and are the major contributor today behind strokes, diabetes and cancer. Industrialization and prosperity has brought with it greater consumption and has invented these ways of suffering. The justification for consuming meat by most is that it is rich in protein. However, there are various plant based sources of protein which are healthier and equally nutritious like soya , lentils and chickpeas. They are also much lower in terms of saturated fat.

3. It is the leading of cause of unknown viruses and disease: Bubonic plagues, bird flu, swine flu, the covid-19 virus, salmonella have all been caused by consumption of infected or under cooked meat. in the US, 70% of food poisoning cases have arisen from contaminated meat . Fecal contamination in meat is a major driver. Not eating meat reduces your chances of harming yourself and your family from such recurring diseases. There are equally good vegan food options of non-vegetarian dishes without compromising on the taste of the food. The internet is loaded with options of even things like vegan meat , vegan pepperoni and vegan ice creams. Indian companies like Vegan champ, vegeta gold also offer these meat substitutes which are 100% plant-based. Ice-creams which are ice based like sorbet are a good substitute for ice creams. If people had preferred these then so many diseases could be prevented. And, most of all you would not have been stuck at home right now for the past 4 months. People close to you would not be suffering , would not be unemployed today. The covid situation has a hidden message in it , signifying the importance of being a vegetarian. It has given mankind a second chance to learn from the errors of the past.

4. It makes you resistant to antibiotics: You must have come across the term "supergerms"- antibiotic resistant bacteria . I am sure most of us must have consumed antibiotics when sick, or have often been recommended to take them when sick. Eating meat will make you resistant to these medicines, as the meat today is loaded with antibiotics in large quantities to help them grow and recover faster from illnesses. Because of this a plethora of resistant bacteria have developed. Thus new drugs need to be developed faster , and this is increasing your chances of falling sick faster and more frequently.

5. Livestock agriculture is the main source of global warming - not fossil fuels: Did you know how much water is needed to produce one egg? Take a wild guess - It is 53 gallons of water! This is equal to the amount of water a human drinks on average in one year. Eggs consume so much water because the chickens need to be fed grains which are water-intensive, and additional water for irrigation and drinking. Fossil fuels and pollution are definitely causing global warming, but what you are eating is way more responsible for it. At this rate, it will become close to impossible to reverse the effects of global warming. Islands will continue to sink, some places will be in drought while others will be flooded.

Recently, there was a report on Bloomberg which reported that exported Shrimp from Ethopia to China had tested positive for the corona virus. This brings into question if we the virus is transmitting from animals/ food products to us or not.
Thereby increasing the importance of greater awareness among people regarding the harmful effects and numerous side effects of consuming meat and dairy. This list is not restricted to only red meat , or cow milk, this list includes yogurt, cheese, fish and other kinds of sea food. Shifting to a purely vegan diet will not be something you regret in the future. It will in fact deliver to you a brighter , youthful and a longer life ahead. That day you will thank your self for taking a wise decision today.

What you are eating has greater repercussions than you know or can see.
The corona virus is one such example, billions today are suffering because of the negligence of a few.
Do you want to be the person behind the devastation of yourself and millions?
