Best Indian Brands for Organic Products

I had written another post on Top brands for clothes and for cosmetics which are available today. Some of them were Indian , while others were not.
It is important to highlight the brands that have been recently growing and are of Indian origin. Some of them you are possibly already familiar with.

The main reason I want to highlight brands which sell organic products is not solely for the benefit of the environment but to benefit our body. Cosmetics these days are often tested on animals first before being sold, they contain harmful chemicals like SLS (sodium laureth suplate) , parabens , mineral oil and micro plastics (which are the worst for the environment).

Just a background
Micro plastics are less than 5mm ( which makes them extremely tiny) . They are so tiny that they flow during through the drain down the sewage system and into the oceans. They are not even visible to the naked eye. They are consumed by sea animals, and at the same time can be cancer-causing for us. Some countries that have banned the use of this are - Canada, USA, Sweden. India is on its way to do and will ban it in the coming years , however till it is banned we cannot be too sure about it in the products we use.

Here is a list of a few Indian companies which are good for you.

1. FOREST ESSENTIALS -
This brand has really grown recently because they are 100% organic and everything is made from natural processes. Initially when this venture started it was hand-made products. They have the most pure products which are not at all tampered with. If you buy rose water/mist from any other store you will find a list of additional things added - basically preservatives. Their rose water has nothing of this sort. They have lotions, body washes, shampoos and everything else.

Pros-
Amazing and Unique Smell
100% natural
Value for Money

Cons -
Exorbitant prices
Sold in plastic bottles
Stores not available widely across India

2. KAMA AYURVEDA -
This brand is very similar to Forest Essentials. The products are very similar , but they have more products which are on the theraputic and Ayurvedic side. The stores look very rustic and have an attractive ancient look to them. They also have almost the same products as Forest Essentials.

Pros -
100% Natural
Value for Money

Cons -
Prices more affordable
Sold in Plastic Bottles

3. PATANJALI -
Patanjali is a very well known brand. They have everything from cosmetics to cornflakes, grains to even their own Maggi which is supposed to be very healthy. A lot of people doubt this brand - I won't call this brand as vegan however they do avoid the use of preservatives. They sell virgin coconut oil, pure alovera gel . Their products tend to reduce the out burst of acne as well.

Pros -
Very affordable prices
Available widely across India
Sell various products

Cons -
Sold in plastic

4. SCENTORA -
This is a new growing brand I have recently come across. They have a limited range of products as of now - shampoo bars, soap bars , face packs. They don't have conditioner and shampoo varities for different hair types, and they dont have foaming face washes. Their products are totally handmade and are you can feel how natural they are when you use them. I have tried the body butter and it gives a very smooth and shiny texture to the skin.
Check it out at :- https://scentora.in/

Pros -
100% vegan and hand-made
Sold in glass/paper
Packaging is also recycled

Cons -
Limited products available
Can buy online only ( never seen a store)

5. FABINDIA COSMETICS -
This is a slightly lesser known segment of Fabindia. Fabindia is mostly known the for Indian apparel section, yet when you enter a store you will see a corner with a lot of their organic cosmetic products.
They have testers as well so you can try their products. They have a variety of products depending on your skin type or requirement. For women, they have items like almond kajal which is like the one our ancestors used to use. They also have gift sets.

Pros -
100% natural
Affordable prices
Sell essential oils too

Cons -
Sold in plastic bottles
Rarely have discounts

6. BARE NECESSITIES (India)-

Bare necessities is a very recent brand that has been growing really well recently. They provide cosmetic products in recyclable materials and are completely eco-friendly. The soaps they sell do not contain any synthetic products, and are wrapped in recycled paper. They mostly serve their customers online and they have ensured that the entire process from manufacturing to packaging and delivery is completely recyclable and sustainable in the long-run.

Pros-
Zero waste packaging
Sold in paper and glass

Cons-
Available online
Insufficient qty for price

7. BOHECO LIFE -
I came across this website by total fluke and the products were just incredible! Boheco sells products mostly made of Hemp - Hemp is a form of cannabis but instead of being a drug it has variety of uses which are very beneficial to humans, and have only recently been discovered.

Hemp can be used as a fabrics for clothes, mats, cushion covers . It can also be used in therapeutic oils. What's the best part - It is preservative free, completely vegan and made in India. BOHECO has all these products, they also have hemp seed oil, hemp powder which is good for nutrition.

You can have a look at the website here - https://bohecolife.com/

Pros -
Natural and therapeutic

Cons -
Only available online
Limited type of products

So, this is the end of the list. The whole idea as a consumer is to be aware of the choices we make when buying products. We shouldn't be exploited by money making capitalists at the cost of the environment and ourselves.
This is just the starting of the list, going forward I am hoping that the mainstream cosmetic companies will factor in the idea of sustainability and provide products keeping that in mind. Also, share your experience with some of these brands in the comments section below. If you know of any latest brands which are still not that widely known then that would be good too.

You can also refer to another of my posts on cosmetics and apparel brands which are on the sustainable side.
